DAVID E. LEIBOWITZ, Managing Partner

David Leibowitz brings many years of experience in business, technology, law and policy issues facing the entertainment, new media, CE and IT industries.

Mr. Leibowitz serves as a Senior Advisor to Motorola, National Datacast, and Musicane, among others. David also is a Partner in The A&R Channel (a cable VOD service on Comcast available in over 16 million homes), Executive Vice President of Gotuit Media (a leading provider of premium metadata based video discovery, advertising, personalization and monetization technologies to major program networks and sports leagues), and Chairman of Sir Groovy (a music licensing solution connecting TV Producers, Music Supervisors, Filmmakers and Advertising Executives to indie labels worldwide).

In recent years, Mr. Leibowitz has also served as Chairman of Ezmo (an independent online social music subsidiary of FAST Search and Transfer - since acquired by Microsoft) and as an advisor to BMI, Gibson Guitar, Haystack Media, Peppercoin and others in the content and technology industries.

To say that content and media is in David’s DNA is not an overstatement. After all, his grandfather owned a chain of record stores in New York City in the 1930’s and 1940’s and his father was an early employee at Decca Records.

Building upon this foundation, David charted his own course, beginning as a concert promoter while a student at Boston University in the early 1970’s, and later in that decade, developing his expertise in copyright law as Policy Planning Adviser to the U.S. Register of Copyrights.

In 1984, David joined the Washington, D.C. law firm Wiley & Rein as a partner where he represented Fortune 100 clients, including broadcast networks, motion picture studios, cable MSOs, television personalities, trade associations, and a Major League Baseball club.

As the 1980’s were coming to a close, David joined the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as its Executive Vice President and General Counsel. In these roles, David he was responsible for business, policy and legal issues facing the industry with particular emphasis on how to position the industry to best utilize new physical formats and electronic delivery platforms.

In the late 1990’s, as unauthorized digital copying and distribution over the Internet began to reach epidemic proportions, David worked towards developing solutions to the problem, becoming a co-founder and Chairman of VERANCE, the preeminent audio watermark technology used to protect, manage, and monitor audio and audiovisual content, including in theatrical release and the Blu-Ray format.
